Roughly a year after achieving my first major Microsoft certification, I have achieved my third — Microsoft Certified Database Administrator. This certification built on my previous testing required to achieve Microsoft Certified Application Developer for .NET (May 1, 2003) and Microsoft Certified Solution Developer for .NET (Aug. 28, 2003).
This seventh test was 70-290, Managing and Maintaining a Windows Server 2003 Environment. This test served as an elective to the MCDBA certification. Previous requirements were satisfied by 70-228 (May 26, 2003), 70-229 (Jul. 22, 2003, elective for MCSD .NET), and 70-305 (Apr. 11, 2003, core for MCAD .NET).
This certification opens the door to achieving Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator, which would require two more tests: (1) Installing & Configuring Windows Server 2003, and (2) Installing and Managing Windows XP. While achieving this certification would increase the number of certifications I have to keep up to date, it would increase my breadth of knowledge used to install the infrasturcture necessary to develop enterprise solutions.
